During Marvel Studios' big Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, director Ryan Coogler officially announced that he is returning to direct Black Panther 3. The movie is set to be released only in theaters on December 15, 2028.

Ryan Coogler was joined on stage by Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri, and Winston Duke, who plays M'Baku. Together, they shared exciting news with Marvel fans. Coogler revealed that actor David Jonsson, known for his roles in The Long Walk and Alien: Romulus, will become the new Black Panther in the upcoming movie.

While introducing Jonsson, Coogler explained the story behind the new Black Panther. He reminded fans that in the previous Black Panther movie, they introduced a young boy who was revealed to be T'Challa's son. T'Challa was the legendary Black Panther played by the late Chadwick Boseman. Coogler said that in the new film, this young boy will have grown up and reached adulthood. The story will focus on his journey as he becomes the next Black Panther and carries on his father's legacy.

After the announcement, David Jonsson came onto the stage and received a standing ovation from the audience. Fans welcomed him with loud cheers and applause.

Jonsson thanked everyone for the warm welcome. He said he was grateful to Ryan Coogler, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, and the entire Marvel family for giving him this incredible opportunity. He also said that he did not want to reveal too much about the movie because he wanted fans to experience the story on the big screen. He ended by saying that it is a great honor and privilege to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe and play such an important role.
